Stiles is now twenty! And kind of a badass. Thanks to three years of being on the lam and fighting for the resistance, he's buffed up a little more and learned how to be a decent shot with a gun (and a crossbow for sentimental reasons). His biggest contribution to the cause still lies in his mind; he can pick things up quickly, research like nobody's business, and help come up with plans. As far as his behavior goes, he's a lot calmer and more confident than he was in MM. While Stiles is never going to be a cocky guy, being useful instead of helpless has given him a much needed boost in self-esteem. He still flails around a lot and nothing short of death will make him lose the motormouth, but he's less prone to panic attacks. He still tears up every time someone manages to survive the impossible though. No homo.

He's also a lot more ruthless. Not when it comes to his fellow survivors - he will fight tooth and nail for all of them - but he doesn't care at all about how many of their enemies die and will even consider risking bystanders if it's the best chance for success or minimizes the risk to the resistance. For instance, as far as Craven Castle goes, his priority is to bring the game down and get Kaoru and Spain out; he's not going to be trying to sabotage or prevent the murders, especially since if everything goes according to plan they'll be able to save them from the graveyard anyway. His martyr complex has also come into light - while he'd suppressed it in MM due to being desperate to return to his dad and best friend alive, that doesn't seem like it's happening any time soon, so yeah. He's not going to rush blindly into battles when someone superhuman would have a better chance of success, but he'll take enormous risks on his life for information or supplies and so on (while yelling at everyone else to stop being so stupid for doing the exact same thing).

As far as relationships go, his closest friends are Gundam, Annie, Susan (even if she won't admit it), and Lydia - they're the ones he'll trust most and listen to when it comes to advice, as well as the ones he'll wake up at 3 AM to go check out this rumor or that shiny thing over there. He's also really good friends with Beat, Sonia, Alice and Poland - he's pretty fluent in Polish at this point and probably passable in Japanese if he managed to badger Gundam into teaching him. In general though, he tries to talk to all the survivors and form bonds with them, having recognized that they'll likely be spending a lot more time together - and with getting home looking more and more impossible each day, they're all he has left.

STILES LEARNS TO USE A GUN

KANAYA'S INITIALLY A TINY BIT CONFUSED, not that she doesn't know what guns ARE but I think the sylladex technology significantly changed the dynamic of weaponry so at first she just wouldn't see what the big fuss was about, she'd hang around his shoulder during whatever learning opportunity fostered his knowledge and obediently memorize the theory, she'll never favor ranged weapons

much like during the reunion when she was on her way to thinking of him as a friend, Kanaya depends on Stiles for her healthy dose of witty banter but she kind of understands not being in his top five, she still has trouble completely opening up to a normal human emotionally and thinks he's the LAST person who needs something else to fret about, her own problems are insignificant as it is, but she does hella trust him, like if he created some plan like "Kanaya you have to go through this laser marathon in sixty seconds while singing the ode to joy" she would have the guts to say Hell No if she was absolutely sure it wouldn't work but in general the answer would be Hell Yes

Haha he probably already knew how to use a gun since his dad's a cop, but now he's actually good at it! So he will totally show her how to take one apart and clean it and fire it because some of us are just soft squishy humans who can't fight in close combat.

OH NO THAT'S SO CUTE...hahaha Stiles will fret about her anyway because he frets about everyone this is sort of his job. BUT YES he will totally get down to bantering with his best friend's girlfriend, especially since she's the one that won't talk about his spraying hose.

Gundam would come down really hard on Stiles for having a martyr complex, after everything he went through in MM. In a very inscrutable way where he would explain why it's wrong but it would just be impossible to understand. But he'd be really angry and disgusted with him for risking his life too blatantly.

BAAAAW GUNDAM ;A; Stiles' martyr complex is a little different from Gundam's actions in MM because it isn't due to him not trusting anyone or thinking no one cares about him, but because he just desperately wants to feel useful and hates hanging back while the superior combatants go out to fight. But Gundam might actually be the one person who can get him to listen and talk him out of being an idiot because impossible to understand or not, Stiles will get where he's coming from and what a massive hypocrite he's being. And Gundam is for sure one of the people he doesn't want to disappoint the most, so as long as he can tell how much his actions are hurting him, he'll do his best to tamper down on the risks he's taking.

Yeah, he's absolutely not afraid to be angry and tough and I'M DISAPPOINTED IN YOU with people he cares about, so he would definitely be harsh.
